Frequently Asked Questions
local moves
What areas do you serve for local moves?
We serve all of Suffolk and Nassau counties, including both residential neighborhoods and apartment buildings. If you’re moving anywhere on Long Island, including Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan, we’ve got you covered.
How are local moves priced?
Local moves are typically priced based on the contents of the domicile, the number of crew members, the estimated time, and the access conditions. We provide fixed quotes after an in-home walkthrough—no surprise hourly fees.
What’s included in a local moving quote?
Pickup, loading, transport, unloading, and furniture protection are included. Packing, materials, and storage are available as add-ons if needed.
Do you charge extra for stairs or long carries?
Not always. We assess your home during the estimate. If there are significant access challenges, such as multiple flights of stairs or long walks from the truck to the home, we’ll include that in your quote upfront.
Can I schedule a same-day local move?
It depends on our availability. We recommend booking at least 1–2 weeks in advance, especially during peak season, but we’ll do our best to accommodate urgent requests.
How far in advance should I book my local move?
The earlier the better. Booking 2–4 weeks ahead is ideal, but we understand last-minute needs and will always try to fit you in.
Do you offer in-home or virtual estimates?
Yes. We offer free in-home estimates for local moves. We do not perform virtual walk-throughs
Are your movers employees or subcontractors?
Every mover is a Samonas employee. They trained, background-checked and fully insured. We never subcontract or use temp labor, EVER!
Will I work with the same crew from start to finish?
Yes, whenever possible. You’ll also have direct access to a move coordinator or owner to keep everything on track.
Can you help with disassembling and reassembling furniture?
Yes, absolutely. We handle beds, tables, and most household furniture. Just let us know what’s included so we can plan accordingly.
What happens if my move runs longer than expected?
We build in flexibility, but if the scope changes or unexpected delays occur, we’ll communicate any additional time clearly, no hidden overtime.
How do you handle fragile items during a local move?
With care. We wrap furniture in stretch film and pads, and fragile items are boxed or crated based on their needs. Packing support is available and can be quoted during the estimate.
Do you provide packing materials for local moves?
Yes. You can purchase boxes, tape, packing paper, wardrobe cartons, and more. Or we can bring them as part of your packing service.
Can you move large or oversized furniture locally?
Yes. We move pianos, pool tables, safes, and other oversized items regularly. These are quoted separately depending on access and weight.
Is insurance included in my local move?
No. By law, we are not permitted to offer insurance. However, liability coverage is included at no cost, as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Local moves are covered at $0.30 per pound, per article.
You may purchase additional liability coverage based on the declared value of your belongings. The cost is calculated at $0.50 per $100 of declared value, with a $2,500 minimum value required (minimum cost: $12.50).
We’ll clearly outline your options during your estimate, allowing you to choose the level of protection that’s right for your move.
regional moves
What qualifies as a regional move?
A regional move typically involves crossing state lines within a few hundred miles—such as moves from Long Island to New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, or nearby parts of New York State like Westchester or the Hudson Valley.
Which states do you serve for regional relocations?
We specialize in moves from Long Island throughout NY, NJ, CT, and PA. We also serve Delaware and the New England States as far as up to northern Maine as well.
How long does a regional move usually take?
Most regional moves can be completed within 1–3 days. We provide an exact timeline during your consultation so you know what to expect.
Are packing services available for regional moves?
Yes. We offer full, partial, or fragile-only packing services for all regional moves. Specialty item handling and crating are also available.
What should I know about pricing for regional moves?
Regional moves are priced based on volume, distance, access, and services requested. We provide a fixed quote after a detailed in-home or virtual assessment.
Can I store items during a regional move?
Yes. We offer short- and long-term storage in our climate-controlled facility for in-transit or holdover items between move-out and move-in.
Will my belongings be combined with those of another customer?
Oftentimes, we do not combine shipments. Your items are loaded, transported, and delivered by the same crew on the same truck. However, if there is a situation where we are making multiple moves to the same area, your belongings are carefully and methodically separated in our long-haul trucks.
Are there delivery date guarantees for regional moves?
Yes. We provide a clearly defined delivery window and stay in communication throughout. We don’t use vague 2–3 week delivery wondows.
What if my building has restrictions or time windows?
Let us know in advance, and we’ll work around building access times, elevator reservations, or parking limitations. We’re used to working with building management and have performed many successful, stress-free moves for New York City co-op, high-rise and apartment dwelling customers.
How do you protect belongings during transport?
Furniture is blanket-wrapped and secured in place. When using our packing service, all fragile items are properly boxed or crated. The same crew handles your items from start to finish, preventing transfer-related damage.
long distance moves
What qualifies as a long-distance move?
Any move that takes you outside the tri-state region (typically over 300 miles) is considered long distance. This includes relocations to states like Florida, the Carolinas, Georgia, and beyond.
What states do you move to?
We handle long-distance moves along the East Coast and select Midwest states. Popular destinations include Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia. Others, like Indiana or Ohio, are considered on a case-by-case basis.
How is a long-distance move priced?
We provide a binding quote based on the estimated cubic footage, total weight, travel distance, services requested, and any access challenges at origin or destination. There are no hourly rates or surprise charges.
Do you use subcontractors or brokers for long-distance moves?
No. Samonas Prime does not broker out or subcontract your move. The same team that loads your items will transport and deliver them.
What’s the typical delivery window?
Most long-distance deliveries occur within 3 to 10 business days, depending on the location. Your specific delivery window will be provided before booking.
Will I be able to track my shipment?
Yes. We stay in communication throughout your move, and your point of contact will provide updates as needed.
What packing options do you offer for long-distance moves?
Full-service, partial, or fragile-only packing is available. We also offer crating for artwork, TVs, marble, glass, or antiques.
Do I need to be present on moving day?
Yes. Someone 18 or older must be present at both origin and destination to verify inventory, answer questions, and sign paperwork.
Can you store items temporarily before or after a long-distance move?
Absolutely. We offer secure, climate-controlled storage options for short- and long-term use. This is ideal if you’re waiting to close or settle in.
Can you move items into a condo, high-rise, or gated community?
Yes. We’re familiar with access-controlled communities. Just let us know in advance so we can arrange for proper scheduling, elevator access, or permits.
What’s included in the quote?
The quote includes loading, transportation, unloading, and furniture protection. Optional services like packing, unpacking, storage and basic valuation coverage are quoted separately.
Is insurance included in my long-distance move?
No. We cannot legally provide insurance. We do include free basic liability coverage as required by federal DOT guidelines.
Long-distance moves include $0.60 per pound, per article liability coverage at no charge.
You may also choose to upgrade to Full Value Protection (FVP), which offers broader coverage based on the total weight and value of your shipment. FVP includes three deductible options, which will be explained during your quote appointment.
What if I need to change my delivery date?
Contact us as early as possible. We do our best to accommodate schedule changes, especially when storage is involved.
Can you move large or high-value items long distance?
Yes. We move pianos, artwork, safes, statues, high-end electronics, and more—properly crated and transported with care.
How far in advance should I book a long-distance move?
We recommend booking 4–6 weeks in advance to secure your preferred move date. However, we may be able to accommodate sooner based on availability.
Packing & Specialty Item Services
What packing options do you offer?
We offer full-service packing (we pack everything), partial packing (you pack most, we pack fragile or specialty items), fragile-only packing, and box supply for DIY packers.
Can I choose only to have my fragile or high-value items packed?
Yes. Our fragile-only service is perfect for items like glassware, artwork, mirrors, and electronics.

Everything is packed by our trained team using professional materials—kitchenware, books, clothing, art, decor, electronics, and more. We also label and organize by room for easy unpacking.
Are packing materials included in your quote?
If you book packing services, we include standard packing materials. If you’re packing yourself, materials are available for purchase à la carte.
Can I buy moving boxes and packing materials without booking packing services?
Yes. We offer moving-grade boxes, tape, paper, stretch wrap, mattress covers, and more—whether you’re hiring us to pack or doing it yourself.
What items must be packed or crated to be moved?
The following must be boxed or crated for us to transport: TVs, mirrors, lamps, artwork, electronics, marble/glass tops, and fragile decor.
What happens if I don't pack something properly?
We’ll need to pack or re-pack it onsite for safety, and additional charges will apply. We’ll always let you know first and explain why.
Do you offer custom crating?
Yes. We build and provide custom wooden, foam-in-place, or insulated crates for fragile, oversized, or high-value items such as pianos, artwork, and sculptures.
What items do you not pack or move?
We cannot transport flammables, perishables, firearms, cash, jewelry, passports, medications, or hazardous materials like propane or paint.
Can you pack up my entire home even if I’m not present?
We prefer at least one responsible adult be present to guide and approve the process, especially for labeling and handling valuables.
storage services
What makes your storage facility climate-controlled?
Our storage units are kept between 55°F and 85°F year-round, with filtered airflow and monitored humidity levels. This protects wood furniture, electronics, documents, and delicate items from mold, warping, and extreme temperature swings.
What size units are available, and how do I know what I need?
We offer multiple unit sizes, from compact storage for a few boxes to large spaces that fit full households or offices. During your estimate, we’ll recommend the right fit based on volume, duration, and access needs.
Is your storage facility secure?
Yes. Our facility is monitored and access-controlled. Only authorized Samonas staff handle your items—no self-access or third-party workers are allowed.
Do I need to book a move to use your storage?
No. While many clients store with us as part of a move, we also offer storage-only services for seasonal items, renovations, or business needs.
How is storage billed?
Pricing depends on the unit size and storage duration. We offer clear, upfront rates with no surprise fees. Billing is typically month-to-month with discounts for longer commitments.

Crating & Specialty Item Services
What qualifies as a specialty item?
Specialty items are oversized, fragile, valuable, or unusually shaped pieces that require extra care. This includes pianos, antiques, artwork, statues, marble tops, electronics, fitness equipment, and designer furnishings.
What kinds of custom crates do you offer?
We offer wooden, foam-in-place, insulated, corrugated, and slatted crates—each designed to protect specific types of items. Crates are custom-built based on your item’s size, weight, and fragility.
How do you determine the cost for specialty crating?
Pricing is based on the item’s value, dimensions, handling complexity, and the materials required to build the crate. You’ll receive a clear quote during your walkthrough.
Can you move high-value / one-of-a-kind items?
Yes. We provide white-glove handling and secure packing for valuable and irreplaceable items. Our team is trained to handle fine art, antiques, collectibles, and custom furnishings.
Do you offer auto transport?
